  1. One of our dog club members makes freeze dried chicken hearts so the members benefit, especially on graduation from the classes she teaches.

On that study with the colony dogs, I’d be curious to know how many of those dogs were actually the breeds mentioned that are prone to DCM? Not sure there is much of a difference in the breeds that aren’t affected by DCM, but I’d be curious if the dogs that have it or are prone to it, if the feeding study would affect them in any way. Just my thoughts.

Probably the dog food companies paid to not have the other study mentioned so they could continue selling their products without any issues.

My Beagle/JRT mix had a high liver enzyme and just went to Turkey and stayed away from red meat. My one vet said he had one other Beagle with a high liver enzyme and they couldn’t figure it out – like what exactly was going on with the dog. About 4 months later they took bloodwork again, normal – no changes in routine or feeding, so no clue. Hope that helps.

  2. What other diets have been linked to dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs?
In addition to grain-free diets, other diets that have been linked to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs include those high in legumes such as peas, lentils, and chickpeas, as well as certain boutique or exotic ingredient diets. These diets have been associated with an increased risk of heart disease, particularly in breeds not typically predisposed to DCM.

  3. I feed Just Food For Dogs. And I lightly cook chicken hearts pray over your food and your dogs.
